Hearing tests in Children

Hearing tests

Our sense of hearing is one of the foundations for our childrens development, and specifically language development. Through the world of sound our children are exposed to speech and language and hearing impacts their social development and learning abilities. In the case of a hearing loss – even if temporary and mild – it can have an impact on these developmental processes. Hearing loss can be “transparent”, it can fluctuate and it can go unnoticed.

The hearing test experience at The Speech and Hearing Clinic is based on professionalism, sensitivity and effectivity.

Performing hearing tests on young children requires experience, patience and an understanding child development. The hearing test is performed by two Audiologists,
one that is with the child and a parent in the audio sound proof room, and one that is outside administering the test

Hearing tests are performed according to the childs chronological and developmental age. We are aware that cooperation at this age is not to be taken for granted and there is a short window of participation that we need to maximize in order to obtain the hearing information that we need so as to provide parents and referring doctors with information. Therefore, we welcome children and their caregivers with a big smile and in a calm, playful manner so as to obtain the most amount of information possible.

The goal of the hearing test is to identify if hearing is within normal limits or if there is a hearing loss. If so, what kind of hearing loss and what is the severity of the hearing loss. Our Audiological team will explain the results to the parents and make the necessary recommendations
